Step in, and step out along the dirt roads of Columbia County.

The images the exhibit, from local archives and family albums, invite you to take a walk back in time to when roads were often no more than farm tracts or the remnants of trails established and well traveled for centuries by the Mohican Tribe.

Dirt roads before 1900 were vital arteries along which full lives were lived. Each photograph in this exhibition is offered as a means of transport to that era as well as an invitation to rediscover the compelling beauty that is still to be found along Columbia County’s scenic dirt roads.

In “A Contempoary Vision: Young Eyes on Dirt Road Life Now,” local high school students offer contemporary images taken this winter on Chatham’s unique dirt road network. Striking compositions, artistic perspectives and a certain playfullness juxtapose to the staid and straightforward vintage photographs  in the first gallery.

Enjoy your walk!
