Internship Opportunities

Collections Internship

Columbia County Historical Society is seeking several Collections Interns for the 2024 summer season. The internships offer an opportunity to gain practical and professional work experience in the museum field,  and the exciting chance to take part in our ongoing events including our lecture series.

Responsibilities: 

  • Cataloguing objects from our permanent collections which includes: paintings, furniture, ceramics, paintings, textiles, and archival material
  • Updating the PastPerfect® database
  • Aiding in the installation and de-installation of exhibits
  • Represent the Columbia County Historical Society in a professional manner


Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Recent graduates may apply  
  • Strong background in history, museum studies, library science, or a related field
  • Experience handling fine art, antiques, archival material, or related artifacts
  • Experience in public programming and exhibitions
  • Highly organized and possessing the ability to lift 30lbs
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite® 
  • Knowledge of PastPerfect®  software

Museum Administration Internship

Columbia County Historical Society is seeking an administrative intern for the 2023 summer season. The internships offer an opportunity to gain practical and professional work experience in the museum field.

The museum administration intern (unpaid) will assist in general administrative tasks of CCHS. These include but are not limited to: processing memberships, assisting with mailings, set-up and breakdown at programs and fundraisers, sorting mail and various other tasks.

The position will begin in summer 2023 (flexible).  The museum administration intern assists and reports to the Executive Director. Weekly commitment will be approximately 1–2 days per week (7–15 hrs), with flexibility in scheduling. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Executive Director in all aspects of the administration of four historic properties, the permanent collection which includes: paintings, furniture, ceramics, paintings, textiles, and archival material
  • Assist in organizing exhibition calendar and promotion of exhibitions
  • Aiding in the installation and de-installation of exhibits
  • Assist in the implementation of the CCHS public lecture series and other events
  • Assist with postal and online mailings, announcements, and press releases
  • Represent the Columbia County Historical Society in a professional manner
